Typography Posters Project:
This typography poster project celebrates three typefaces from broad type classifications by subtly incorporating the elements that signify their usage, the time periods in which they were used, and indicating major type characteristics in the form of anatomical references.
Design Process:
I chose three kinds of typefaces - Serif, Slab Serif and Sans Serif. Namely, Garamond, Clarendon and Frutiger. For each typeface, I researched how it was created and where it was predominantly used.
When Garamond was created, it was mostly used in textbooks. Clarendon featured predominantly in Wild West posters. Frutiger was employed for in-transit areas, especially airports where clarity at a distance was of prime concern. Based on when and where the typefaces were typically used, I came up with a playful way to use letters to form shapes. The Garamond poster shows a girl studying a textbook under a lamp, a cowboy with a hat smoking a pipe standing next to a cactus plant, and a woman dragging her luggage at an airport while she dashed off to her terminal to catch her flight.
Software:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop.
